Ishinryu Karate was established in Australia in 1980.
And since 1982 we have been based in the Sutherland Shire.
We strive to offer our students an exceptional martial arts experience. Our senior (and many assistant) instructors are accredited via the Australian Sports Commission. Our chief instructor Tony Hails 7th Dan is a Level 2 accredited instructor, current mentor coach to the Fijian Karate Federation and former National Coach 2000 - 2008 with the Australian Karate Federation. Numerous other instructors hold International or National refereeing status and/or State, National or International competition experience. Several are qualified teachers and have experience with teaching students with physical and mental disabilities. Many of our instructors have evolved from being parents of children that they brought to our club, having seen the benefits of karate for themselves.
We are members of the Australian and NSW Karate Federations, and through them are members of the World Karate Federation, the only karate federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
Our mission is to develop our students into capable karateka, all the time increasing their self esteem and awareness. Martial arts will increase your confidence and motivation. It will increase your fitness levels whilst teaching you practical physical and mental life skills. And you will have fun.
Our members range in age from 5 to 50+. We have classes especially for kids, and also for families. Our Chief Insturctor Sensei Tony Hails 7th Dan has been practicing karate for over 40 years, and his two senior instructors for over 20 years. Whether you are after an avenue into competition karate, want to learn practical self defence, participate with your entire family or just wish to improve your fitness and flexibilty, we are the karate club for you. We have a family atmosphere whilst also catering for the serious athlete with representation of their state and country their aim - we have a class for you.
